I'm Just Not That Into It.
I'm Just Not That Into It.
In just four short days, I expect that we will have to start dealing with that horribly annoying phrase in happy hour chats, overheard cell phone conversations, and any other medium that can also be described as a "dish-fest."
"He's just not that into you."
Ugh.
While I believe that the real intent behind the phrase (via authors Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo) is sound, honest and empowering, the way that I hear most people use it is not. I think while most people are saying it, they are really thinking the following:
"...because you have big giant elephant thighs."
"Why would he be into you when I am around?"
"I am way more perceptive and smart than you- I can see he doesn't like you but you can't!"
As much as I protest the use of that annoying phrase, I probably will end up seeing the movie. Maybe with an awesome cast that includes Drew Berrymore, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlet Johansson, and Jennifer Connoly, the phrase will shed some of it's annoying-ness, and regain some empowerment? Maybe?
What do you think?
